Alida Wright

Alida Wright is an exciting new vocalist and the latest bright star to emerge from the WAAPA Jazz course. Hailing from outback NSW, her style is a predominately bluesy, soulful lament but encompasses everything from jazz to gospel, funk and beyond. Her warm rich tone lends itself well to jazz and when her powerhouse vocals are unleashed, she is in her element when singing the blues.

At the age of seventeen, Alida Wright's passion for singing developed when she became the proud owner of a Morris Minor 1000 with no stereo. Alida Wright began her professional musical career also in unusual circumstances for a jazz singer, when she won the 'Best New Talent' award, at the Derby Country Music Festival (2000) in northern WA.

Alida fronts the WA Youth Jazz Orchestra, and the WAAPA Big Band (2005). She has supported the likes of James Morrison, Darryl Somers and Joe Chindamo. She has made various appearances with WAYJO and her own band, at a variety of venues including the Perth Concert Hall, His Majesty's Theatre, Perth Jazz Society and Jazz Fremantle.
